Bad*ss Women of Niagara
Beer Series
To celebrate Women’s History Month, the Niagara Falls National Heritage Area teamed up with Griffon Brewing to create a special beer that tells some of Niagara’s most incredible stories.
The result is the Badass Women of Niagara Light Lager, a limited release that highlights four remarkable women whose bold actions became part of Niagara’s history: Annie Edson Taylor, Harriet Tubman, Maria Spelterini, and Betsy Doyle.
Each four-pack includes four different cans, with each can dedicated to one of these women. The labels feature original artwork by Niagara Falls artist Tyshawn Tyson, along with a short story about the woman depicted so drinkers can learn a bit of local history while enjoying the beer.
The women featured represent very different chapters of Niagara’s past. Annie Edson Taylor famously went over Niagara Falls in a barrel in 1901. Harriet Tubman helped guide freedom seekers across the Niagara River into Canada through the Underground Railroad. Maria Spelterini stunned audiences by crossing the Niagara Gorge on a tightrope in 1876. Betsy Doyle became a legend at Old Fort Niagara for her bravery during the War of 1812.
Together, the series celebrates the daring, determination, and resilience of women whose stories are part of the Niagara region’s identity.
The Badass Women of Niagara Light Lager is available in four-packs at the Griffon Brewing taproom, located at 200 Lockport Street in Youngstown, New York.
It’s a collaboration that blends local history, art, and craft brewing, and a fun way to raise a glass to some truly legendary women of Niagara.
