The Niagara Falls National Heritage Area and its partners are accepting proposals for the design of the North Star Freedom Festival logo. The North Star Freedom Festival, co-presented by the Niagara Falls National Heritage Area, Bravo Niagara! Festival of the Arts, and the Niagara Falls Underground Railroad Heritage Area, is a bi-national festival dedicated to commemorating the rich Black history on both sides of the Niagara River, highlighting the ongoing journey to freedom and equality, and pays tribute to the resilience of the courageous freedom-seekers who followed the North Star to Niagara.
A now famous book was written about Lewiston's role in the Underground Railroad, called Freedom Crossing, by Margaret Goff Clark, and is read by thousands of grade school students across the United States every year. The Freedom Crossing Monument commemorates the Underground Railroad movement in Lewiston and was dedicated on October 14, 2009.
